CANDU: Canada's Nuclear Energy Source

What is CANDU?

Who Makes it?

In March 2006, Canada's leading private sector companies in the nuclear and power plant field, Babcock & Wilcox Canada, GE Canada, Hitachi Canada and SNC-Lavalin Nuclear joined together with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) to create Team CANDU®. The Team has already developed a positive long-standing risk sharing relationship through the success of several new build projects along with the solid support of industry leaders.

By formalizing their relationship, Team CANDU is able to provide a business model whereby each of the partners takes on a share of project risk to deliver new CANDU power plants on a turnkey basis. This creates a powerhouse of expertise and experience to build new nuclear plants that will meet Ontario's growing electricity needs, on time and on budget.
